The Jonathon Hawes Approach to Style: Creating Clothes You’ll Wear Forever
I’ve always believed that the best pieces in your wardrobe are the ones that feel like old friends—comfortable, well-worn, and timeless. The ones you instinctively reach for, not because they’re trendy, but because they just work. That’s the foundation of Jonathon Hawes: quality over fast fashion, always.

Clothing today has gone too far in chasing trends—poorly made pieces that cost a fortune and last a season at best. At Jonathon Hawes, the goal is to create everyday pieces that wear well, wash well, and age beautifully. Clothing should be lived in, not just worn. I want you to have pieces that last decades, pieces that become part of your story.

Inspiration is Everywhere

When people ask where I get my inspiration, the answer is simple: everywhere. Ralph Lauren often says his designs come from how he lives, from the world around him. I feel the same way. I’m constantly observing—whether it’s the way a businessman in a beautifully tailored navy suit folds his pocket square, a server at my restaurant who has effortlessly perfected the casual, cool uniform of the industry, or a well-dressed friend who knows how to mix heritage pieces with modern ease.

I look to brands like Ralph Lauren, Aimé Leon Dore, and Reigning Champ—each with their own distinct take on timelessness. But more than that, I watch how people wear their clothes. How they roll up their sleeves, how their sweater naturally drapes over their shoulders, how they style things differently in Paris than in New York, or in Vancouver than in East Hampton. It’s about attitude, ease, and knowing how to live well—comfortably, but never sloppy. Over the years, I’ve learned that dressing well doesn’t mean feeling stiff or uncomfortable; it means knowing yourself and wearing clothes that reflect that.

A Wardrobe That Works

When I think about clothing that lasts, I always go back to my grandfather. If he’s heading out, he’s wearing a blazer—probably double-breasted—with a perfectly pressed shirt, a fun tie, and slacks tailored just so (an inch and a half cut, with a slight break). His polished wingtip shoes are always impeccable. But if he’s mowing the lawn? He’s in his favorite light-wash denim, a cotton sweater, and a pair of old-school New Balance sneakers. That effortless “dad” aesthetic—classic, practical, but undeniably stylish—is something I love.

That same philosophy applies to Jonathon Hawes. Every piece in the first collection is meant to be worn with purpose. Whether you’re heading to a dinner with friends, working outside, or sitting on an eight-hour flight to Europe, your clothes should move with you, not against you. They should feel fun, comfortable, and tough enough to handle whatever life throws at them.

Authentically Me

I couldn’t sell anything I wouldn’t personally wear. The same way I don’t serve anything at Mon Pitou that I don’t truly love. Every French pantry staple we import is something Triet and I have adored for years. Every guest that walks through our doors is treated the way I’d want to be treated. Jonathon Hawes is no different. This brand is an extension of my life—how I live day to day.

And as a proud Canadian, working with Canadian businesses is always my first choice whenever possible. It’s about investing in quality and creating something that feels real—something you’ll have in your closet for years, maybe even pass down.

At the end of the day, Jonathon Hawes isn’t about trends. It’s about clothes that make you feel like you. Clothes that let you live well, and comfortably—without ever feeling stuffy.
